Description

The Game-Art-HQ group recently launched an art challenge, inviting Deviants to create fan art of rarely-drawn video game characters.

Let's draw rarely drawn VG Characters Challenge! There are a ton of video game characters that are rarely drawn.
Sometimes because they are just from very old games, sometimes because they have very unattractive designs.
But maybe these characters can be fun to draw and be an interesting challenge for you because their look is hard to catch or the challenge would be to make a boring character look like a badass?
If the topic of rarely drawn video game characters interests you and you know one you would like to draw OR you like to get a choice between three really rarely drawn game characters, just comment!
Everyone gets a deadline of 1 month depending on the day of joining the challenge
Any drawn characters for this challenge will get featured via a journal here as well as via an own blog article about the character, your artwork and yourself on http://www.game-art-hq.com/ as an extra reward....Except you don't want that of course!
Cheers and happy weekend :icongbk666:

I opted to draw Baron Dante, the villain from the Croc series. My original idea was to go all out and make a really elaborate picture: maybe have the Baron seated on his throne, flanked by a few of his Dantini minions, maybe with a Gobbo chained behind him. Ultimately, due partly to the time limit and partly because I felt all of that background clutter would distract from the character, I decided to focus entirely on Dante alone.

For those who aren't familiar with the Croc games, the series was about Croc, an anthropomorphic crocodile. Orphaned as a baby, he was taken in and raised by the Gobbos, a race of cute, cuddly, and totally defenseless fuzzballs. All was well until Baron Dante, the tyrannical ruler of the impish Dantini race, invaded the Gobbo valley for no real reason other than to be a jerk. Croc escaped, and armed with nothing but a backpack, determination, and some serious jumping power, set out to save his friends from Dante and his minions.

I found a couple of pictures online for reference, and to my chagrin, actual art of the Baron is not only a little hard to come by, but also a bit inconsistent. The colors of Dante's outfit differ slightly between the original Croc game and its sequel, and among other things, Dante is sometimes depicted with two toes on each foot, and at other times with three. My picture is based primarily on his design from the first game, although it is not a perfect recreation.

The Croc games were a major part of my childhood, so it was fun to create this. I drew this in Photoshop with my graphic tablet, as practice makes perfect. Here's hoping you all like it.

Baron Dante and the Croc games were owned by the now defunct Argonaut Software and Fox Interactive. I have no clue who holds the rights now.
The picture was created by me.
